Make sure that the moving company you are considering has insurance to cover your belongings. Ask for a certificate of insurance. Moving trucks do have wrecks and they do lose the entire contents of a truck. It doesn't happen often but you want to be protected if it does happen.

Always get competitive bids. Pay close attention to whether the bids you receive are binding bids or non-binding bids. Here's the difference. A non-binding bid is an estimate only. The actual amount you will pay can be more than the bid. A binding bid is a firm price bid. The amount you will pay will never be greater than this.
